One thing I always spend a lot of time on when organizing a trip is finding accommodation. I always like to look for the best areas to stay in the place I’m going to visit. If you are going to travel to Hanoi, and you are one of my people, you are probably wondering where to stay in Hanoi. In this post you’ll find advice about the best places to sleep in Hanoi and recommendations of accommodations for different budgets.

These are the best areas to stay in Hanoi:

  1. The Old Town (Hoàn Kiếm), Hanoi’s historical center

Old Town is the most famous area of Hanoi. This neighborhood originated in the imperial era. Today, you will find locals and tourists bringing the streets to life. You will experience the most authentic, yet chaotic Hanoi. The number of motorcycles, shops, and other pedestrians will not give your senses a rest.

The Old Town is the best option to stay in Hanoi, since the area itself is a tourist attraction. It also has other must-see places to see in Hanoi. It has a lot of gastronomic offerings and provides accommodations of any kind.

Take a look at all the accommodations in the Old Town.

  1. The French Quarter (Hoàn Kiếm), an option for the more luxurious

The French Quarter is also located in the Hoàn district Kiếm, right next to the Old Quarter. Here you will find several government buildings, embassies, a higher class residential area and its popular shopping area Trang Tien, where you will find numerous boutiques, restaurants and bookstores. It is also a central area but quieter than the Barrio Antiguo. You will find many luxury hotels, so if you are used to staying in this type of accommodation, this is the place for you.

Although I wanted to highlight the French Quarter and the Old Quarter, the whole district of Hoàn Kiếm is a good option to book accommodation.

  1. Ba Đình, a quiet area to stay in Hanoi

The area of Ba Đình is also a very good choice where to sleep in Hanoi. It is located between the Old Town and Lake Tây. It houses several historical sites, such as the Imperial City of Thang Long, the Temple of Literature, the One Pillar Pagoda or the mausoleum of Hồ Chi Minh. It is a much quieter place than the Old Town but less popular for accommodation. The location is good for exploring the rest of the city.

Don’t miss all the accommodations in Ba Dinh.

  1. Tay Ho, the most modern neighborhood

This neighborhood surrounds Lake Tây. What used to be an area frequented by fishermen in the past is now home to many expatriates. It is Hanoi’s most modern neighborhood, with many elegant boutiques and restaurants, and a great nightlife. The drive to Old Town is 15 minutes.

  1. High budget hotel recommendations in Hanoi

If you are looking for luxury hotels, here are two recommendations, one in Ba Dinh and another in the French Quarter.

If my budget had been different, I wouldn’t have minded staying in this five-star hotel at all. They offer double rooms of different categories. It also has an outdoor swimming pool, an indoor swimming pool, a gym and a sauna. Besides, being a skyscraper, the views of the city are impressive.

Another great option to sleep in Hanoi if your budget allows it is the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, located in the French Quarter. The decoration is of neoclassical style. It has a swimming pool, restaurant and spa, among other services.
